An elderly man has died after he was hit by a vehicle in County Wexford last night.

It happened shortly after 7.30pm in the townland of Aske, near Gorey.

Gardaí said the man, aged in his 80s, died at the scene and was removed to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem will take place.

The scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Gorey have launched an appeal for any witnesses of the collision to come forward.

Road users who were travelling through Aske at the time of the incident who have dash-came footage are also being urged to share this with Gardaí.
