TD Paul Murphy says the mass boycott of the property tax is now 'broken', after he confirmed he has paid his bill.

The Anti-Austerity Alliance TD, who tore up his property tax form publicly in 2013, says he was forced to pay the tax against his will to be able to sell his apartment in Ballinteer, South Dublin.

"I'm still opposed to the property tax, and the Anti-Austerity Alliance is opposed to the property tax, and a left government would abolish the property tax" he told Newstalk Lunchtime.

"But it's a reality they broke the mass boycott of the property tax - most people had no choice, it was taken from their wages or they had to do it because they were selling property or something".

"They beat us, that's a reality".

He says the boycott of Irish Water is ongoing - but admits they were "beaten" on the property tax issue.
