A Brazilian judge has recommended that Pat Hickey be placed under house arrest.
The president of the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) was arrested on August 17th in connection with the alleged illegal resale of Rio 2016 tickets.
The 71-year-old, who is being held at Rio's Bangu prison, denies any wrongdoing.
Judge Fernando Antonio de Almeida cited concerns over Mr Hickey's health in court documents agreeing to grant him bail.
He said releasing the Irishman "would not bring any obstacle or risk to public order", or undermine the criminal investigation against him.
The judge further noted that, where possible, the law should be interpreted in favour of the accused.
In a statement released by their solicitor last week, the OCI chief's family said they were concerned about the manner of his arrest and its effects on his heart condition.
Today's judgement comes after Kevin Mallon was released on bail from the same jail on Sunday morning.
The THG Sports executive, who was arrested as part of the police investigation into ticket touting, is said to have shared a cell with Mr Hickey.
