The Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy, which runs until 2035, has been approved by the National Transport Authority (NTA).
It includes finalising a number of projects during the next five years - including completion of the Cross City Luas line, and the opening of the Phoenix Park Tunnel for commuter services.
The DART Expansion Programme and new Metro North project are also due to get underway, while funds have also been made available for ongoing maintenance and general service enhancements & improvements.
The strategy was subject to public consultation last autumn.
The NTA says it will now prepare a statutory implementation plan for the proposed objectives over the next six years.
Acting Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe welcomed the publication, saying "this Transport Strategy outlines the National Transport Authority’s vision for the development of the transport network in the Greater Dublin area for the next twenty years.
"The strategy will ensure the integration of transport objectives within all levels of the planning and development system within the [area]," he added.
