1,030 new jobs are set to come on-stream in Limerick and Dublin. The University of Limerick (UL) has launched a four-year development plan which will see 1,000 positions there, while Aon Insurance is to grow its Dublin operations by 30.

The UL €224 million Capital Development Plan - part-funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) - will see 12 infrastructural developments on the University campus, construction of a new Clinical Education Research building, and development of a City Centre Campus including. This will include student residences and an academic building in Limerick City Centre.

"Our Plan outlines our vision for the future development and expansion of the University of Limerick covering 50,000 square metres of state-of-the-art research, student, sports and academic facilities" said Professor Don Barry, President of the University of Limerick.

"We look forward to working closely with the EIB to optimise the benefits which this will deliver for UL, for Limerick and for Ireland and the EU as we extend UL’s role as a dynamic agent of economic, social and cultural development" he added.

1,000 jobs are expected to be created over the lifetime of the plan - with 290 full-time positions and 710 construction positions over the period of the plan.

Other highlights of the UL plan include:

  • the Glucksman Library Phase 2 will double the size of the current library facility
  • a dedicated purpose built Team Training Centre for the Munster Rugby Team
  • a second 25m pool incorporating a Diving Pool as part of an extension to the University Arena
  • a Pitch Development project which will see the development of 6 state-of-the-art flood lit grass training pitches

Meanwhile insurance company AON is to create 30 new positions in Dublin. The jobs will be based in the company's centre for innovation and analytics (ACIA) where 100 people are already employed.

The ACIA team supports clients and Aon team members across the globe through advanced insurance research and analytics.

Chairman of the ACIA, Stephen Cross, said "Through the team in Dublin and our second centre in Singapore, we are already meeting the evolving demands of our clients in over 120 countries across the globe by equipping them with the level of insight and analysis that is not available anywhere else".

Aon CEO Constantin Beier says the company is looking for data managers and statisticians.
