An investigation is underway after a fire claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman at a house in Dublin this morning.

Gardai in Kevin St were alerted to the fire on St Malpas Place, Clanbrassil St shortly after 7am.

Emergency services attended the scene and the  woman was taken from the house and brought to St James Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The house has been preserved for a technical examination and Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Kevin St.
