Could a female taoiseach finally be on the cards?

It's among the prophecies made in this year's Old Moore’s Almanac - the traditional annual publication that's now been published for 258 years old.

It was originally started by Theophilus Moore, a teacher from Co Offaly, who wrote predictions for the following year along with other information like tide times.

Old Moore’s Almanac editor Nicole Buckler spoke to Lunchtime Live about what their "in-house psychic" is predicting for 2022.

She said: “Let’s start with a female taoiseach is on the cards.

“Apparently, she is making her alliances now and gearing up. The in-house physic says she’s going to have a very unstable coalition when she gets into power - so it’s rocky roads all the way.

“It's within the next three years… we have to watch out and there’ll be signs.”

Other predictions include another pandemic ‘totally unrelated’ to COVID-19, as well as a giant wave, an earthquake, a drought and a huge dump of snow for Ireland.

Don’t worry though - Nicole says the predicted earthquake in Ireland is not a big destructive one, but simply the kind that ‘makes the chair outside wobble a bit’.

The almanac also features some sporting predictions, including Limerick winning the hurling All-Ireland and Dublin taking home the Sam Maguire Cup once again.

France is predicted to win the Six Nations, while it’s Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka in line for Australian Open victory.

And what of last year’s predictions?

Well, last year’s almanac did predict 'rapid Covid testing becomes an essential tool in Ireland’s efforts to return to normal life' (not too far off the mark), record summer temperatures in Europe, and the break-up of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.

However, some of its other 2021 predictions - including ‘exciting signs of alien life from beyond our solar system’, ‘a risk of a nuclear accident’ and ‘a series of terrorist attacks in Europe’ - suggest you might want to take the predictions with a few pinches of salt.

It also predicted 'Mayo for Sam' in 2021 - so even Old Moore can't break 'The Curse'.
