Oasis devotees have been warned to be wary of ticket scams ahead of the band’s gigs at Croke Park.

Fraudsters are believed to be cloning accounts using stolen images and charging full price to trick desperate fans of the band.

Mary D'Arcy is the Financial Crime Lead at FraudSmart and joined Shane Coleman on Newstalk Breakfast to discuss this issue.

Oasis ticket scams

"Because it's peak concert season, we have seen an increase in [fraudsters] trying to ramp up the efforts, taking full advantage of those concertgoers trying to get last-minute tickets."

There are a few red flags that experts have warned Oasis fans to beware of to avoid being scammed.

“The first one is being asked to pay by bank transfer, and following that is the pressure to act quickly,” Ms. D'Arcy says.

“So if [the seller] say that there are others interested [and] to act now, click on this quickly - that’s a massive red flag. you should just go through the official website.”

Scammers prefer to operate via bank transfer, as she explains.

“It’s an easier way to try and gain access to details.

“They will play on emotions - they know that the excitement will override caution when it comes to the hard-hitting fans.”

While most Oasis fans may consider themselves internet-savvy, the scams are often extremely convincing in their conception and execution.

Ms. D’Arcy gives some final words of advice for people looking to get last-minute tickets online.

“Always pause before you pay. It can make a real difference between the concert of a lifetime or a concert disaster.

“If something feels off, trust your intuition.

“It’s about pausing for thought and looking at what you can do to safeguard yourself."

FraudSmart have launched a website - scamchecker.ie - where Oasis fans can check the background of websites that they are unsure about ahead of the band's Dublin gigs.
