Nurses at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin have agreed to suspend industrial action while they sit down for talks with management.

From 8 o'clock this morning staff in the emergency department will resume their regular duties.

For the last eight days INMO members in the Emergency Department have been involved in a work to rule refusing to carry out any tasks that didn't involved direct contact with patients.

They claim extra admin work and overcrowding have been stopping them giving proper care.

However in a statement issued late last night the INMO said if both sides attend the WRC improvements can be reached.

“The INMO will approach these talks with the aim of reaching an agreed outcome, as the working environments and the conditions under which nurses are attempting to provide a level of safe care cannot continue," said INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Philip McAnenly.

"We believe that some improvements can be arrived at through the process set out by the LRC and we welcome their assistance in this regard," he added.
