Dozens of people gathered in Galway today as Newstalk's 100 Days of Walking challenge reached the quarter-way mark.

The initiative, which started on January 1st, aims to encourage walkers to pound the pavements for just 30 minutes a day over a 100-day period.

Newstalk presenter Dr Ciara Kelly is leading the way for the third year running and is encouraging listeners to her Lunchtime Live programme to get involved.

Those who have taken up the challenge gathered in Salthill today to mark 25 days of walking and took to the promenade for a stroll.

Dr Kelly told attendees: "I hope you are all very, very proud of yourselves; I'm so proud of you.

"Most of you I know from online because 100 Days of Walking is a really great online community and there's so many people posting on Facebook on Twitter and it's absolutely fabulous to meet you in real life today."
