Newstalk receives 26 nominations for this year's IMRO Radio Awards

Newstalk has received 26 nominations in this year's IMRO Radio Awards.

The nominations are across news, programming and sports categories.

There's nominations for the reporting on the Belfast Rape Trial in the News Story category, and for the station in the News Bulletin category.

The Pat Kenny Show, Ivan Yates: The Belfast Rape Trial Verdict and Between The Lines are nominated for Current Affairs Programme - Full Service.

Pat Kenny, Ivan Yates and Sean Moncrieff are all in the running for best Speech Broadcaster, while Tommy Walsh is nominated in the Newcomer category and Henry McKean for News Broadcaster.

Eoin Brennan's After Tuskar Rock is nominated for best Documentary/Feature, Moncrieff has gotten the nod in the Magazine Programme category, and the dramas Captive and A Pilot's Honour have also received nominations.

Futureproof has two nominations - for Specialist Speech Broadcaster of the Year and Innovation - and Splanc is among those nominated in the Irish language category (Craoltoireacht le Gaeilge).

Also named in the Innovation category is Newstalk Ireland's Town, and there's a nod for Lunchtime Live: Cervical Check for Interactive Speech Programme.

In the sports categories, there's nominations in the Sports Story category for Silenced No More, Ashamed No More; Off the Ball and OTB Live for Sports Programme - Full Service; and Raf Diallo, Joe Molloy, Nathan Murphy and Ger Gilroy for Sports Broadcaster.

Announcing the nominations, a spokesperson for the Radio Awards Committee said: “Heartiest well done to all the nominees, we applaud the quality of the entries this year.

"Radio in Ireland is thriving once again and we are delighted to see such a varying range of programming being submitted.”

Newstalk's Chris Doyle said: "We are delighted to see Newstalk programmes receive so many shortlist nominations for the IMRO Radio Awards.

"It is testament to how well regarded Newstalk’s output is and how hard the whole Newstalk team work to create great content."
