Irish editions of UK newspapers suffer continuing sales declines

The ABC figures for June indicate that printed newspapers are continuing to face an uncertain future, with the Sunday editions particularly showing steadily declining sales.

The statistics released today only cover the Irish editions of UK papers, but the full Irish data will be released in four weeks. The other national papers are also likely to have suffered from declining readership in light of changing reader habits and a continued shift towards online content.

Some of the ABCs released today:

  • Irish Daily Star: down from 65,683 copies a year ago to 58,574 this year. Sunday edition down to 63,741 copies from more than 71,000 twelve months ago.
  • Sunday Times: down to 92,817 copies from 99,003 a year ago.
  • Mail on Sunday: down to 95,000 copies from 105,000 a year ago.
  • Sun on Sunday: down to 57,300 copies in June from more than 74,000 a year ago.
