After a massive 47.47% increase in new car registrations for the month of July, it seems that August has returned yet another positive figure for the Irish motor trade. Overall, it appears that new car registrations have increased by 30.36% year to date in comparison with 2014.

According to statistics uploaded yesterday by SIMI (Society of the Irish Motoring Industry), new car registrations saw an increase of 32% for the month of August. 6,429 new cars were registered during last month, while August 2014 showed registrations of 4,864. According to these statistics, 116,350 cars have been shifted so far in 2015, whereas for the same period in 2014 that figure was significantly lower at 89,252.

The highest number of registrations for August by manufacturer were; Volkswagen (816 units), Toyota (690 units), Nissan (629 units), Ford (516 units), and Skoda (472 units). Year to date it appears that Volkswagen hold the largest market share at 12.29%, followed by Toyota (10.67%), Ford (9.65%), Hyundai (9.46%) and Nissan (9.14%).

The most registered models for August were; Volkswagen Golf (303 units), Skoda Octavia (263 units), Ford Mondeo (254 units), Nissan Qashqai (205 units), and Opel Insignia (169 units). Year-to-date the most registered models are; Volkswagen Golf (5,161), Ford Focus (4,069), Nissan Qashqai (3,953), Skoda Octavia (3,646), and Toyota Corolla (3,343).

Hatchbacks are proving to be the most popular vehicles in the country with 39,635 units registered so far in 2015. Saloon vehicles are the second most popular sellers with 29,587 registered so far. Diesel still represents the lion’s share of sales with 70.09% of the market, while electric vehicles represents 0.37% of registrations. The top selling colour is black (19.73%) followed by silver (19.68%), and then grey (17.33%).
