During the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena on Sunday morning, the streaming site made some big announcements.

Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos announced that: “We’re going to spend in 2016 about $5 billion dollars on content on a [profit and loss] basis, which means about $6 billion in cash. [...] We are running a global network. one that is not easily comparable either in business or cultural terms… We’re not courting advertisers because we’re not targeting a single demographic.”

On Saturday, John Landgraf - the chief of American cable station FX - stated that: “Counting TV shows is like counting lemmings. You can’t even count the number of TV shows accurately. Hoping they won’t run off a cliff and into an ocean. [...] 2016 or 2017 will represent peak TV in America, and then we will see a decline.”

When questioned on the topic, Sarandos said: “Is there too much TV? [...] We don’t think there’s too much TV. And if there is too much TV, someone else is going to have to slow down, because we have big plans for 2016 and beyond.”

Earlier today, Netflix confirmed the release dates for some of it's biggest new and returning shows, including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 2 (April 15th), Grace And Frankie Season 2 (May 6th), Orange Is The New Black Season 4 (June 17th) and the first season of the Baz Luhrmann directed disco-epic The Get Down (August 12th) amongst others.
