The possibility of the government establishing a National Housing Plan is up for debate at a conference in Dublin today.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">There are currently
98,000 people on waiting lists for social housing.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">The housing association Respond says a comprehensive National Housing Plan would address their needs more appropriately.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">The topic will be
debated at a 2-day conference starting this morning in Dublin.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Respond provides housing for some of the most vulnerable groups in society including those who have lived for long periods in hostels, temporary and insecure accommodation.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">It has offices in Dublin, Galway and Cork, with several sub-offices around the country.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">It says the purpose of the conference is that of
a national forum “for all in the public, private and voluntary sectors to come together to address the issue of a lack of a comprehensive National Housing Plan”.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Chief Operations Officer with Respond is Ned Brennan.

class="MsoNormal">He outlines what the strategy would contain.
