The National Bus and Rail Union will hold a national day of action - including work stoppages - on May 1st.

The day of action is in protest at Government plans to privatise 10% of the country's bus routes.

NBRU members at Bus Eireann and Dublin bus recently voted in favour of industrial action over the proposal, after 7 months of LRC talks failed to reach any conclusion.

In addition to the work stoppage, a series of marches will also take place at urban centres across the country on May 1st, including a march by NBRU members on the Dail.

Meanwhile SIPTU members at Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann are meeting this afternoon to discuss a possible strike.

90% of its members also recently voted in favour of industrial action over the privatisation plans.
