The names of three senior gardai alleged to have asked a State solicitor to put pressure on a former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prosecute Ian Bailey are to be handed over to the former journalist.
The current DPP Claire Loftus has agreed to share documents with Mr. Bailey, who is suing the garda authorities for alleged wrongful arrest over the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.
During Ian Bailey's successful Supreme Court appeal against his extradition to France it emerged in State documents that former DPP Eamon Barnes was critical of aspects of the garda investigation into the murder of French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996.
Materials disclosed during the hearing suggested that a State solicitor may have been asked by at least one senior garda to put pressure on Mr. Barnes to prosecute Ian Bailey - a former suspect in the case.
However at that point lawyers for Mr. Bailey only received an edited copy of the documents which they say support the former journalist's claims of malice against the garda authorities.
Today the High Court heard that the DPP has agreed to hand over an unredacted version of the file to his legal team
Ian Bailey's action for damages is due to go before a jury in late autumn.
