Bingo! I’ve done it. Contracts signed. Ink dry and the big box called consultants pay has been ticked. I showed them. I’m sorry that I’ve not written anything since last Wednesday but boy I was on fire. You would have loved it diary. There was I outside the Dail with sexy Miriam and some young lad from Newstalk when I just said it. I told them ‘Sign by Sunday or I’ll get very angry’. It worked. Enda will love me and The Wan next door might get some cash for her primary care thing. BINGO. Ah yes, that’s how I ended my weekend. A nice bingo night down in Skerries followed by an one ‘n’ one from the chipper on the pier. Night, night Diary.

Sunday Afternoon

The aul one ‘n’ one started to repeat when I opened the S’indo today. Can a GP not look after their poor sick patients without some bloody hack sticking their nose in.  They should have been able to come up to Airside, got themselves checked out and then head over to Harvey Normans for some soft furnishings. And there’s a McDonalds just about to open. If they had a corony while chewing on their fries, I’d be near them with a defibulator. Ah well, it’s all gone now. Bloody property boom caused by the last government.

Tuesday Night

First day back up there in the Dail and everybody’s talking about ME. A great feeling. The cabinet meeting was great too. There was me on top of the agenda. To be honest, I thought there would have been more hugs for me but I suppose they are thinking that words are better than actions. Isn’t that the saying?  Imagine, a whole Dail debate all about me. This is why I entered politics. Health getting  a two day debate and it’s all down to me and my actions. The first night went well. I showed them. Home truths time. Reminded them we’re a colony of the IMF because of their actions. And Enda reminded them I’m a doctor so I know what I’m talking about

Wednesday Night

I am the winner. You are a loser. 99 to 49.  No arguments there. And what a job herself next door did. Laid out all the options we are facing with utter clarity. I couldn’t have said it better myself. In fact I’m going to write it down here to share it with you, dear diary. She said we need to decide we either:

“Increase prescription charges for medical card patients or instead reduce the drugs bill”.  Should they “cut public health nurses or instead collect money owed by insurance companies”, and should they “cut home helps or impose a cap on consultants’ pay?”

By not mentioning me, she actually helped me win. She laid out all the options starkly and now we can move on and implement those options! These women, they have brains god bless them!

Friday Morning

I know it’s a bit early but I’m sooooo excited. Front page of Irish Times again. And great news too. Primary care coming to North Dublin. Number two on the list. Haven’t a clue how they got there but sooo delighted the patients wil be cared for. Think I deserve a trip to skerries tonight for another one ‘n’ one from the pier. A great week. I love caring for people.
