Multiple sclerosis sufferer Gerard Murphy has urged the Health Service Executive (HSE) to help fund a drug that dramatically improves his standard of living.
The ‘miracle’ drug Fampyra works on one-third of MS sufferers by helping with their mobility and walking speed, allowing those with the disease to carry out routine functions much more easily’.
Speaking to Newstalk Lunchtime today, Mr Murphy told Jonathan Healy that the drug would enable him to walk better and improve his balance.
"When you have late stage MS, that's the only medications available to the neurologist", he said.
He says in January of last year, the HSE would not reimburse the cost of the drug - so he stockpiled a year's supply of it.
But he says that stockpile ran out in January of this year.
