Mechanics forecast a rise in the number of call-outs after the festive period.

Research carried out by Allianz Global Assistance Ireland saw a 400 percent increase in the number of motorists seeking road side assistance on the 2nd of January, with the busiest time from 8am to 2pm.

Flat car batteries were the number cause of vehicle breakdown call-outs with flat tyres, running out of fuel, and putting petrol in a diesel engine coming in close behind.
