A motorcyclist has been killed in a collision involving a car in Co Cavan.

It happened on the main Cavan to Ballinagh road at Corlurgan just after 3pm this afternoon.

The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The N55 at Corlurgan is currently closed with local diversions in place.

The road is expected to remain closed overnight and into tomorrow morning.

Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to conduct a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling on the N55 in the Corlurgan area between 3pm and 3:30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating officers.
