A man has died following a road collision in Co Monaghan.

The incident-involving a car and a motorbike-happened on the main Monaghan to Clones Road outside of Smithboro village at Lismeagh at around 9 o'clock last night.

The 29 year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to Cavan mortuary where a post mortem will be carried out.

The driver of the car and a female passenger were uninjured.

The road is closed to motorists this morning while gardai examine the scene and local diversions are in place.
