Eight-year-old Zoe Scannell was killed instantly when a car driven by a 17-year-old collided with her on a roadway last June, near Rosscarbery, Co Cork.
Her mother Elisha is calling for more education for drivers- on how to cope if something goes wrong on the roads.
She spoke to Jonathan Healy on Lunchtime today and called for rules on unaccompanied drivers to be enforced. The driver of the car which killed Zoe was just 17 years of age and a learner driver.
She has forgiven the driver for what has happened since but Elisha said that lessons still need to be learned: "They need to get some education when it comes to driving in schools, they need to get a lot more experience on the road and it needs to be more socially unacceptable to be driving without a full licenced driver when you are on the road as a provisional driver.
"It's definitely not enforced enough.
"The guards need to follow it up more."
