The mother of a two-year-old boy, who was found dead at his home in Dublin on Thursday, has been charged with his killing.
Newstalk's Zara King reports:
Hazel Waters of Ridge Hall, Ballybrack is accused of killing Hassan Khan at their home two days ago.
She was brought into court wearing dark clothing and a black coat. She kept her head bowed during her short court appearance.
The 46-year-old is charged with the murder of her two-year-old son Hassan Khan.
The toddler's body was found in their apartment at Ridge Hall in Ballybrack on Thursday afternoon.
A post mortem took place yesterday. The results have not been made known but it is believed he was stabbed.
The court heard that Ms Waters does not want to see a psychiatrist but her solicitor feels it would be appropriate for her to be assessed.
She's been remanded in custody to appear again in court on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the level of state supports for the family is now likely to be investigated as the toddler was the subject of a Child Rescue Ireland alert just two months ago.
It was cancelled within an hour when he was found with his father, but it is unclear what level of follow-up supports were provided or considered after Hassan was returned.
The CEO of child and family agency Tusla, Gordon Jeyes, said it will work with any investigating body to cast light on the little boy's death.
Health Minister Leo Varadkar spoke about the potential investigation earlier today:
