A search is underway for three men after a woman was killed when she was hit by a car used in a robbery in Dublin.

At about 9.20pm last night, a number of men entered a convenience store in Barnhill Road, Dalkey - threatened staff and robbed a sum of cash.

They left the scene in a car that was involved in a collision with two female pedestrians in nearby Killiney.

Ten new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in the Republic of Ireland last night - the biggest daily increase to date.

It brings the total number of cases here to 34.

Two of the new cases are healthcare workers, while the remainder had either returned from an affected area or had close contact with another confirmed case.

The country remains in a containment phase but is expected to move to a delay phase - a change which could see measures such as the widespread closure of schools.

Northern Ireland’s Department of Health yesterday afternoon confirmed four new cases, bringing the total there to 16.

Officials in the UK are trying to work out if anyone else in government has contracted coronavirus, after health minister Nadine Dorries tested positive for Covid-19.

The MP is now in self-isolation.

She has tweeted to say she hopes she's over the worst of it - but is worried about her 84-year-old mother who has been staying with her.

Ms Dorries was at a reception at Downing Street - with Boris Johnson - on Thursday, the day she started to feel unwell.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar travels to Washington DC today for a pared-back schedule of St Patrick's Day celebrations.

The lack of a government and fears over the coronavirus have led to a much shorter trip than usual.

Mr Varadkar will meet Donald Trump tomorrow at the White House - however, a planned reception by the Irish ambassador has been called off.

Joe Biden is a step closer to becoming the Democratic Party’s candidate to take on Donald Trump in the US presidential election.

He has won the primary vote in the key battleground state of Michigan - a state which his rival Bernie Sanders secured four years ago.

He has also had victories in Idaho, Missouri and Mississippi.

Mr Sanders, meanwhile, is forecast to pick up a win in North Dakota, while early results from Washington showed a near tie between the two candidates.
