Virginia's governor has lashed out at the "white supremacists and the Nazis" who took part in a far-right rally in Charlottesville.
Far-right activists organised the event to protest against Charlottesville's plans to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E Lee from the city, leading to violent clashes with counter-protesters.
Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said: "Our message is plain and simple: Go home. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth."

Two men who were arrested after a loaded gun was found in Ballyfermot in Dublin last Monday have been charged in connection with the incident.
A van was stopped on the Kylemore Road by the Emergency Response Unit and the weapon was recovered.

Gardaí will continue their search today for Trevor Deely, who disappeared in Dublin 17 years ago.
The then 22-year-old was last seen walking home from a Christmas party in the Haddington Road area in 2000.
