Fine Gael may be forced into delaying the vote to elect Enda Kenny as Taoiseach by several hours later - after failing to strike a final deal with Independents.

A number of issues remain outstanding and it is unclear if they can be resolved before the planned sitting of the Dáil at midday.

One of the issues for the Roscommon TD and Independent Alliance member Michael Fitzmaurice relates to turf cutting on bogs.

Other members of the alliance also have issues and are sticking to their 'all for one' position that nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.

Homelessness charity the Peter McVerry Trust is welcoming the possibility that Rent Supplement will be increased as part of the new Programme for Government.

CEO of the Trust Pat Doyle is hopeful the move may stop more people ending up on the street.

At least 28 people in a refugee camp in northern Syria were killed on Thursday despite a ceasefire taking hold in Aleppo, it has been claimed

The deaths occurred when airstrikes struck the Al-Kammouna camp near Sarmada, in Idlib province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The area is controlled by Syria's al Qaeda-linked al Nusra Front.

The jurors in David Mahon’s murder trial will resume their deliberations this morning for a third day.

The 45-year old of Ongar Village denies murdering his 23-year-old stepson Dean Fitzpatrick three years ago.

It is the prosecution’s case that Mr Mahon stabbed Mr Fitzpatrick deliberately following a row at Mr Mahon’s apartment on the Malahide Road.
