The search is continuing on both sides of the border this morning for two men believed to be involved in the robbery of an ATM near Newry, County Down.

The machine was ripped from a filling station wall early yesterday morning, and found later by Gardaí in a van in the Carrickmacross area of County Monaghan.

One man was arrested near the van, but two others managed to escape on foot.

Meanwhile, a PSNI officer investigating the ATM theft is being treated for serious head injuries after he was targeted in a hit-and-run attack.

Up to 40% of homes bought in Ireland are paid for without a mortgage, according to figures from the Property Price Register.

They show that the average price of a house sold in the third quarter of this year was just over €235,000 - a 12% hike on the previous three months.

Figures in the Irish Independent also show a spike in the number of homes worth more than €1 million being sold.

An investigation has been launched after a crew on board a fishing vessel was arrested in the Irish sea last night.

It is understood the inquiry surrounds work permit issues.

They were detained after the LÉ Orla came across the boat when out on a routine fisheries protection patrol yesterday afternoon.

The approximately half a dozen crew members remain in Garda custody.

The tragic death of Irishman Michael Dwyer in 2009 will be raised with the Bolivian president this weekend, during a state visit to Ireland.

Evo Morales begins his historic two-day trip here today, the first official visit to Ireland by a Bolivian Head of State.

It is expected President Morales will come under renewed pressure to launch an independent inquiry into the killing of Michael Dwyer.
