After months of preparations, Pope Francis will touch down in Ireland this morning.

More than 700,000 people are expected to turn out over the next two days for the first visit from the leader of the Catholic Church in almost 40 years.

The eyes of the world are on the visit, with speculation over whether he will talk publicly about child sex abuse within the Catholic Church.

He will meet with survivors of abuse during his 36 hours in Ireland – however, it is not known where or when that will happen.

He lands in Dublin at around 10:30am this morning and will begin his trip by heading to Áras an Uachtaráin for a meeting with President Michael D Higgins.

An investigation is underway into a major drugs seizure in Dublin worth €674,000.

Two women are in custody this morning after two searches were carried out in Bluebell yesterday evening.

The first seizure was made when gardaí stopped a car in the area at around 5pm and found €4,000 worth of heroin.

In a follow up search at a nearby house, heroin and crack cocaine worth €670,000 was seized.

There are still dangerous weather conditions in Hawaii - despite Hurricane Lane being downgraded to a tropical storm.

There has already been torrential rain and flooding on the US state's Big Island – and the island of Oahu is now in line for a battering.

Schools and offices have been closed and 11 people had to be rescued, however, the storm's weakening has come as a relief to people in Honolulu.

Donald Trump has cancelled his secretary of state's latest visit to North Korea - citing "insufficent progess" in the country's move towards de-nuclearisation.

It follows reports suggesting North Korea is continuing to develop nuclear weapons.

But the President also suggested his ongoing row over trade with China may be partly to blame for the talks stalling.

A man and two dogs are back on dry land after being rescued off the West Cork coast.

A dog was reported to be stranded on remote rocks at the base of a cliff, near the Fushcia Walk in Courtmacsherry Bay yesterday evening.

The local RNLI Lifeboat rushed to the scene and two crew members on an inflatable rescue dinghy persuaded the Black and White Setter to hop on board.

A short time later, a nearby 21 foot pleasure boat got into trouble, after suffering engine failure. The Lifeboat towed its skipper and another dog back to Cortmacsherry Pontoon.
