Support for the party has soared 17 points to 37%, according to the Irish Times poll – making it the largest in the country if the election was run again.

It's the opposite story for Fianna Fail on the other hand – it is down 9 points to just 14% support.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar denied the programme for government is kicking cans down the road.

Green Party Deputy Leader Catherine Martin endorsed the plan, although four of her 12 parliamentary colleagues abstained.

The Banking and Payments Federation now says as few as 14-thousand could be finished, with capacity in the building sector down as much as 50%.
