The Tánaiste has warned that a no deal Brexit will devastate Northern Ireland’s economy and put the peace process at risk.

In an editorial for The Sunday Times, Simon Coveney said the peace process is “the single biggest achievement” Ireland and Britain shares – and warns that both sides have an obligation to protect it.

The article notes that the Irish Government looks forward to working with the new UK leader; however, the “facts and complexity relating to Brexit remain the same.”

He said the backstop was negotiated by all sides to protect peace and prosperity in Ireland – and that is “not something that is up for renegotiation.”

The Minister of Health is being urged to bring Irish healthcare home to the women of Ireland.

It comes after the HSE confirmed that around 11,500 women were affected by out of date cervical testing kits in recent years.

Around 5,000 of those have been asked to return for re-checks.

The health service has insisted the clinical risk to women's health is low and the re-tests are precautionary.

People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith said the Government must work to end Ireland’s reliance on external labs – and give Irish clinics the capacity to carry out the tests and analyse the results here at home.

Dubliners are being urged to come out and enjoy College Green this weekend for the first of three car-free Sunday's in a row.

Dublin city Council is pedestrianising the area on a trial basis to see what it might be like if the area went car-free full time.

An Bord Pleanála has already rejected a plan to pedestrianise the area; however, the council plans to return with updated plans when the BusConnects proposals are complete.

The area is going car-free from 7am to 7pm – with a range of family-friendly events running from midday.

NATO has condemned Iran’s seizure of a British-flagged commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

The western military alliance said the action represents a “clear challenge to international freedom of navigation.”

It said all its members “remain concerned by Iran's destabilising activities” and welcomed UK claims that it will attempt to address the situation through “dialogue and diplomacy.”

The UK is reportedly planning a range of diplomatic and economic measures – including potential asset freezes – in response to the action.#
