Talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil on the formation of a minority government are to reconvene - possibly as early as today.

But Fianna Fáil is unlikely to sign any documents committing to a timeframe for a deal and is demanding that Fine Gael get between six and eight more independents and others on board.

Fianna Fáil says the minority government "must include others" - and is suggesting that needs to be between six and eight of the Independents and others that have been abstaining in votes.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate a shooting in Dublin in which a man in his 20s was killed in broad daylight.

The man was shot up to six times at the junction of Sheriff and Oriel Street yesterday afternoon and later died at the Mater Hospital.

The gunman got away on a bicycle.

At least nine people are dead and more than 800 have been injured after an earthquake in southern Japan.

The 6.5 magnitude quake destroyed houses and buckled roads in the city of Kumamoto, when it hit yesterday afternoon.

There are fears people could be trapped under rubble. 1,600 soldiers have been deployed to the area.

Brazil's Supreme Court has rejected a motion to block the impeachment of the country's president.

President Dilma Rousseff has been accused of masking budget problems by shifting around government accounts.

The pro-impeachment camp needs two-thirds of votes in the lower house to send the proceedings to the Senate for a possible trial.

A survey examining the health challenges experienced by Aer Lingus cabin crew will be launched later.

Dr Richard Wynne of the Work Research Centre carried out the study with crew members based in Dublin, Shannon and Cork during July 2014.
