Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a man was shot dead outside a gym in north Dublin on Thursday night.

Another man is in a serious condition following the gangland style attack in Swords.

A man in his early 20s was hit a number of times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The number of enrolments in higher education in Ireland is at a record level.

New figures from the Higher Education Authority (the HEA) show that there were almost 232,000 people studying in institutions here last year.

Over 44,000 new undergraduates entered into higher education while over 70,000 people graduated with either an undergrad or postgrad qualification.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has told Jeremy Corbyn it is "impossible" for her to rule out a "no-deal" Brexit.

It's after the UK Labour leader sought to block his MPs from helping the government there break a deadlock over Britain's EU exit.

Mr Corbyn has instructed them not to "engage" with senior ministers until Mrs May takes the threat of leaving without an agreement off the table.

In the UK, Prince Philip is said to have been left 'very shocked' but unhurt after crashing his car on one of the Queen Elizabeth II's Estates.

The 97-year-old was behind the wheel in Norfolk, when it collided with another car.

Images from the scene showed one of the cars on its side.

The University of Limerick will confer honorary doctorates on the band members of The Cranberries later.

Limerick natives Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawlor will be in attendance to receive their awards.

A special posthumous award will also be presented to the family of lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, three days after the first anniversary of her death.
