A 29-year-old man is due in court later this morning in Limerick, charged in connection with the murder of Kevin Sheehy.

The boxer died in a hit-and-run in the city in the early hours of Monday.

Two men were arrested on Monday evening, and a 29-year-old is due to appear before Limerick District Court this morning.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has hailed the nomination of Ursula von der Leyen for the European Commission presidency.

The German defence minister was finally chosen by the European Council last night, after three days of talks.

EU leaders also nominated IMF boss Christine Lagarde for head of the European Central Bank - while Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel has been proposed as president of the European Council.

Undocumented children and young people in Ireland are growing up facing an uncertain future.

That is the message from Migrant Rights Centre Ireland, who are calling on the Government to create a clear pathway to residency.

It says almost seven in 10 undocumented children are born here, while one in 10 spend up to 10 years in Irish primary or secondary schools.

Contraception should be provided free of charge, the National Women's Council of Ireland says.

The organisation is making the call in its pre-budget submission today.

Health Minister Simon Harris said ahead of the referendum on repealing the 8th Amendment he was aiming to address the cost of contraception this year.

A convention on preventing and combatting violence against women and domestic violence has come into force in Ireland.

The Istanbul Convention also aims to ensure a comprehensive framework, policies and measures for the protection of and assistance to all victims.

The convention was ratified by Ireland on March 8th this year, International Women's Day.
