Cork Mail Centre is to close with 240 people to lose their jobs.

An Post's facility in Little Island will shut on a phased basis between September and next March.

The semi-State company says some staff will be redeployed, but others will become redundant.

Talks will resume today in an attempt to prevent another three days of strikes by health workers next week.

Some 10,000 staff - including chefs, porters cleaners - will complete 24 hours of industrial action at 8.00am this morning.

They are involved in a dispute with the HSE over a job-evaluation scheme and pay.

The Garda Commissioner Drew Harris says a 'limited number' of cases similar to that of former Garda Majella Moynihan have been uncovered.

He says they were found after a trawl of disciplinary files that date back to 1959.

But speaking at the Oireachtas Justice Committee last night, he said it would be difficult to confirm a definitive number.

The funeral of Fianna Fáil councillor and rally champion Manus Kelly is taking place today in Co Donegal.

Huge crowds are expected to pay their final respects to the 41-year-old, who was killed in a crash in the Donegal International Rally at weekend.

The father of five, a prominent local businessman and newly-elected councillor, had won the event for the past three consecutive years.

Ten US Democrats who want to run for president have blamed Donald Trump for the deaths of an immigrant father and his toddler, who drowned trying to get into the States.

During a TV debate in Miami, they attacked the Republican's policies, but there is no agreement on how to solve the issue.

Mr Trump says his opponents are responsible for the deaths, by not letting him pass "the right laws".
