Morning top 5: Concerns raised over COVID-19 clusters in nursing homes; two ATMs stolen in Dundalk

The Chief Medical Officer has raised concerns about the rising number of coronavirus cases in nursing homes.

There have been 38 outbreaks in those settings so far, with most of them in the east of the country.

Last night, the Department of Health confirmed another 22 deaths from Covid 19, bringing the death toll to 120.

There are also 424 new cases, with the total now standing at 4,273.

Two ATMs have been stolen by thieves in Dundalk, Co Louth.

The cash machines were targetted at branches of Ulster Bank and AIB in the main street area in the early hours of this morning.

Two cars were also set on fire outside Dundalk Garda Station in an effort to stop gardaí responding to the robbery.

The raiders were later intercepted but, following a chase, the gang made their getaway over the border into Northern Ireland.

Alan Kelly has been elected as the new Labour Party leader.

He was announced as the winner of the leadership contest late last night and will now replace Brendan Howlin.

The Tipperary TD's rival Aodhán Ó Ríordáin conceded defeat and congratulated Deputy Kelly.

Donald Trump says he won't be wearing a face mask, despite new guidelines advising Americans to do so.

The recommendation comes as the number of coronavirus cases in the US has risen to over 270,000.

The death toll there now stands at almost 7,000.

People in the US are now being told to cover their faces by health officials, but President Trump says he won't be following the advice for now - suggesting he didn't want to meet world leaders in the Oval Office while wearing a mask.

China is holding a national day of mourning for those who've died from coronavirus.

More than 3,000 people have passed away in the country after testing positive for COVID-19, while there are more than 80,000 recorded cases there.

Activity in all major cities has been stopped and a three-minute reflection's been held.
