The Government is due to finalise its contingency plans for a no-deal Brexit today.

The Tánaiste Simon Coveney will brief his Cabinet colleagues on a range of measures needed to protect key sectors of the economy if the UK crashes out without a deal.

The plans are due to be published on Friday.

Speaking in Brussels yesterday, Minster Coveney said Ireland is spending hundreds of millions of euro preparing for a no deal scenario.

In the UK, Honda workers are ‘devastated' at the likely closure of the auto-maker’s factory in Swindon.

Some 3,500 jobs could go if the Wiltshire plant’s closure is confirmed this afternoon.

There has been no confirmation from the carmaker itself – but an MP in the area said he has been told by the firm that the decision's "based on global trends and not Brexit."

However, Liberal Democrats leader Vince Cable believes confusion around future trade with Europe isn't helping.

16 US states are trying to sue Donald Trump over the building of his planned border wall with Mexico.

They argue it is illegal for the President to use emergency powers to secure the funding, without the agreement of Congress.

California is leading the coalition of States attempting the action.

The state's Attorney General Xavier Bacerra said President Trump is abusing his power.

24% per cent of the Irish population is at risk of poverty.

That's according to a new economic report by TASC, which also found that 27% of Irish children are at risk of poverty.

It shows working and lower middle class people are struggling more because of low pay and poor labour protections.

The report's author, Dr. Robert Sweeney, said Ireland has quite low labour force participation and high levels of low pay – leading to a greater risk of poverty and deprivation.

A 20-year-old man charged with the manslaughter of another man in Kerry is due back in court this morning.

32-year-old Stephen O'Connor from Glencar was seriously injured in a row outside a fast food outlet in Killorglin on February 10th.

He died the following day at Cork University Hospital.

20-year-old man Christian Fleming of Mountlyne, Killorglin appeared in court on Friday charged with manslaughter over the incident – he is due to return to Killarney District Court later this morning.
