Virginia's governor says the US state is offering its full support to the survivors and families of the 12 people killed in a mass shooting.

Four others were also injured, including a police officer, after a disgruntled employee opened fire on three floors of a local government building.

The suspect was killed after a gun battle with four other police officers.

Ralph Northam says he's devastated by the "unspeakable and senseless violence".

Gardaí are appealing for the public's help in finding a girl missing from Cavan.

Janelle Quinn, who's 16, hasn't been seen since she was in Mullahoran on Wednesday afternoon.

She's 5-feet 4-inches in height, with a slim build, long dark brown hair and green eyes.

Gardaí believe that she may have visited Kilbeggan town or Dublin since she went missing.

Gardai are questioning a man in his fifties following a fatal hit and run in Dublin on Thursday night.

A 21 year old man died after being struck by a truck on the Swords Road, at the Collins Avenue Junction, shortly after midnight on Thursday.

A white HGV articulated truck is also being examined in connection to the hit and run, after the driver failed to stay at the scene.

The man was taken to Beaumont hospital, where he later died.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward if they were in the area at the time. Dash cam footage is also being sought after.

Ian Bailey's solicitor says his client has no money to fight any compensation claim from Sophie Toscan du Plantier's family.

French authorities have ordered a new European arrest warrant after the 62-year-old was convicted in his absence of the murder of the French TV producer in west Cork in 1996.

A lawyer for the victim's family says they may seek up to €365,000  in damages from Ian Bailey.

Frank Buttimer says his client hasn't been able to work since he was connected to the case.

Plans have been lodged to build nearly 400 homes in Limerick city.

Revington Land Limited has submitted the proposals for the buildings to An Bord Pleanála.

If built they will compromise of 30 houses, 303 apartments and 64 student bedspaces.

The planning board is due to make a decision on the application by July 25th.
