More than 400 fines have been handed out for breaches of coronavirus travel restrictions over the past week.

Gardaí said around 300 of the fines were issued this weekend.

Investigators said 74 fines had been processed by Friday evening, with all those handed out over the weekend due to be processed in the coming days.

Ahead of the weekend, Gardaí reminded the public that they are only permitted to exercise within 5km of their home.

This afternoon, they said the vast majority of people complied with the rules.

They again reminded the public that travelling further than 5km for exercise is not allowed under the guidelines.
