Over €12.5 million was seized from the proceeds of crime in 2011 according to the annual report from the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB).
Interim orders were obtained to the value of €5.3 million along with final restraint orders worth €7.1 million.
A total of 23 cases were concluded under the Proceeds of Crime Act and 6 new proceedings were brought before the High Court.
The government received €2.7 million from the money as well as €3.8 million in tax and interest. While social welfare savings amounted to over €616 ,000.
Shatter: Effectiveness of multi-agency approach
Publishing the report the Justice Minister Alan Shatter said "I am determined that everything possible is done to ensure that assets derived from criminal conduct are targeted and lawfully confiscated by the State" he said.
He added that the report "highlights the effectiveness of a coordinated, multi-agency approach to targeting the proceeds of criminal conduct".
"The work of the Bureau is one of the key law enforcement responses to tackling crime and the government is very much committed to further strengthening the powers of the Bureau through forthcoming legislative proposals" he concluded.
This is the 16th annual report of the Bureau since its establishment in 1996.
