The Tánaiste Joan Burton says voters need to be wary of Sinn Féin 'creeping in in the night' with new taxes.

She was speaking as Labour kicked off its election campaign in Dublin this afternoon.

Labour says it will reduce Ireland's class sizes to their lowest ever, and believes Ireland needs a government with a track record.

But Joan Burton says Fianna Fáil will ruin the economy - and Sinn Féin will burden workers with tax.

Meanwhile, Renua is calling for an end to discrimination against the self-employed.

Leader Lucinda Creighton claims none of the major parties can be trusted in relation to taxation for the sector.

The former Fine Gael minister says the lack of action on the issue in Budget 2016 is proof that the coalition will not improve the situation for small firms.

Deputy Creighton has again called on the electorate to put a watch dog into government on polling day.

And she says the public should be wary of Taosieach Enda Kenny's promise not to work with Michael Lowry.

And the Social Democrats say that there is not any point in being in government if you do not have power.

One of their TDs, Roisin Shortall, was reacting to a suggestion that they could be in the next government, after Taoiseach Enda Kenny earlier ruled out working with Independents.

The Social Democrats say they will review where they stand after the election.

Deputy Shortall - who was briefly part of this government - said there is no point being there without power.

Several parties have launched their campaigns on day three of the general election campaign.
