A frosty start in many areas on Monday, which will begin dry over much of the country, with brightest skies across the eastern half of the country.
However cloud and rain, having already arrived on west coasts, will gradually spread east to all areas during the afternoon and evening.
The rain will be heavy for a time and may be preceded by sleet over northern hills and accompanied by fresh blustery southwest winds.
Clearer colder conditions with rain or hail showers will follow later in the evening as winds veer northwest.

Tonight will be bring clear spells and scattered wintry showers, most of which affect Atlantic counties, with the risk of hail and thunder here too.
Some falls of sleet and snow will occur, mainly over higher ground, but on some lower levels too.
Cold with frost and ice for sheltered areas.
Lowest temperatures will range -1 to +2 degrees Celsius, in a mostly moderate westerly breeze.
