A military gun has been used to spray three police vehicles with bullets in north Belfast.
Ten shots hit the cars which were towing digital traffic signs along the Crumlin Road in Ardoyne last night.
Police are appealing form anyone with information to contact them.
PSNI District Commander chief superintendent George Clarke said this was being treated as attempted murder of police officers "as they wwere providing a service to the community of north Belfast".
He added that the incident should be utterly condemned.
There were no injuries and the police are blaming dissident republicans. The incident happened in the north of the city yesterday evening.
