President Michael D Higgins is in London to participate in the 2016 commemoration programme at the Irish embassy there.
President Higgins, accompanied by his wife Sabina, is attending a reception hosted by Ambassador Dan Mulhall.
The first engagement is a visit to the Archive of the Irish in Britain at the Irish Studies Centre in London Metropolitan University.

This will also mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the centre.
Founded in 1984, it details the history of the Irish in Britain from the late 19th century to the present day.

Then Mr Higgins is attending an 'Imagining Ireland' concert at the Royal Festival Hall. It is being billed as a musical conversation between Ireland and Britain, through songs and music.
It will showcase Ireland's musical talent across a range of genres.
Those taking part include Paul Brady, James Vincent McMorrow, Camille O'Sullivan, Kevin Rowland and Sean Read.
The President and Sabina Higgins will return to Ireland on Saturday.
