Men questioned over suspected murder of boxer Kevin Sheehy

A post mortem is taking place on the body of Kevin Sheehy.

The 20-year-old was killed when he was hit by a jeep on Hyde Road in Limerick city at 4:40am on Monday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí said a second man, aged in his early 20s, received minor injuries in the incident. He was treated at University Hospital Limerick and has since been discharged.

Two men - one aged in his late teens and the other in his late 20s - were arrested on Monday evening.

They are being questioned on suspicion of murder.

A post mortem is taking place at University Hospital Limerick by Dr Allen Cala, locum assistant State pathologist.

The two arrested men are being held at Roxboro Road Garda station and Henry Street Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for anyone with information on the incident - particularly anyone in the area around the time of the collision, who may have dash cam footage - to contact them at Roxboro Road Garda station on 061-214-340, the Garda confidential line at 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.
