The bodies of two men have been found on an island in Lough Sheelin in Co. Meath.

It is understood the remains are those of two men who went missing from Dublin in April.

Eoin O'Connor (32) and Anthony Keegan (33), both from Coolock, had travelled to a meeting in Cavan on April 22nd. It is understood they had travelled to meet with a well-known criminal figure.

Gardaí are also concentrating on a house in Meath, which is a suspected crime scene.

A car belonging to the two men was found at Lough Owel, outside Mullingar, Co. Westmeath last month.

Gardaí previously searched a house near Mountnugent and Lough Sheelin last month.

Last week officers stepped up their search, increasing their presence in the Killnaleck and Oldcastle areas on the Cavan / Meath border.

An incident room has been set up in Kells garda station.
