Yesterday was Groundhog Day, where all across the Midwestern states of America prognosticating woodchucks give up being part of a troublesome tongue twister and discern a shadow to determine how much more of winter will have to be endured.
Made famous in the Bill Murray/Harold Ramis movie, Punxsutawney Phil declared that he did indeed see a shadow, so Pennsylvania will feel winter’s bite for a while to come yet. But better that bite than the one the mayor of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, had to endure.
Mayor Jonathan Freund had to endure a snap from Jimmy the Groundhog when he held the woodchuck up to his ear to receive 2015’s forecast – which at least called for an early spring.
The seasoned politician said that he bears no cold feelings towards the marmot, saying “He is always welcome in Sun Prairie.”
