A man arrested after a shooting in Mayo has been released without charge.
Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, a man in his 80s heard a noise outside his house in Aghamore near Ballyhaunis.
He went outside with a gun and fired a number of shots to warn off any potential intruders.
67-year-old Brendan Kilduff - a farmer from Knock - was struck and died at the scene.
The man in his 80s was arrested and brought to Castlebar Garda Station but was released without charge late last night.
Gardaí say a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, and their investigations are ongoing.
A post mortem has been completed but the results are not being released for operational reasons.
