An 80-year-old pedestrian has died after she was hit by a truck in Co. Mayo.

The woman was pronounced dead at Mayo General Hospital after being seriously injured in the incident.

It happened on the Ballinrobe to Castlebar Road at Aughadrina shortly after 1pm yesterday.

The road was closed for a time yesterday but it has since reopened.

Gardai at Castlebar are appealing for witnesses.
