Diversions in place amid massive security ahead of Budget protest

A ring of steel is being put in place around the Dáil in advance of a protest timed for the budget announcement this afternoon.

Between 15,000 and 20,000 people are expected to get involved in demonstrations.

And officials are taking no chances with security as Newstalk's political correspondent Páraic Gallagher explains.

Protestors have already begun gathering, these people spoke to Newstalk's reporter:

Gardaí are advising that Molesworth Street, Setanta Place and School House Lane are all closed until further notice. Heavy traffic to expected approaching St. Stephen's Green on Leeson Street, Kildare Street, and Cuffe Street.

The AA Roadwatch say delays should be expected on Nassau Street. A number of diversions will also be in place for Dublin Bus this afternoon.

Dublin Bus Routes 11, 14, 15/a/b, 37, 46a, 140, 142 and 145, will travel on their normal route to Nassau Street, and then will divert via Clare Street, Merrion Square West, Merrion Street, Ely Place, Hume Street and back on to normal route at St. Stephen's Green.

Routes 25/a/b will travel along their normal route to Nassau Street and then divert via Clare Street, Merrion Square West and turn left to terminus at Merrion Square South.

While Dublin Bus routes38/a, 39/a and 70 will travel along their normal route to Nassau Street and then divert via Clare Street, Merrion Square West, Merrion Street and left back on to normal route at Baggot Street.
